Ann Bailey
Stallings
March 14, 1938 – July 14, 2025
Ann Bailey Stallings, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 14, 1938, in Nash County, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Josephine Toney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Baker.
Ann lived a life filled with purpose, kindness, and unwavering faith. A devoted member of First Baptist Church of Smithfield, she poured her heart into countless aspects of church life including: teaching, organizing, mentoring, and serving wherever she was needed. Her gentle spirit and joyful presence were a blessing to all who knew her.
She also gave her time and talents to the Smithfield Garden Club. Where, her love for flowers and beauty bloomed in both her garden and her friendships. After retiring, from a long and respected career as Director of the Johnston County Board of Elections, Ann embraced every opportunity to give back. Whether volunteering, helping plan weddings, or simply lending a listening ear. She never met a stranger and had a gift for making others feel seen, valued, and loved. In recognition of her exemplary service, Ann was honored to receive The Order of the Long Leaf Pine award - considered to be NC Governors' highest honor for persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities.
Ann found her greatest joy in her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, whose love knew no bounds. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Durward B. Stallings; her sons; Warren Stallings and Scott Stallings (Sharon); her sister, Peggy Cooper, her brother, Robert Toney (Lynda); and her adored grandchildren, Caroline (Brett) Freedenberg, Jordan Stallings, and Caitlyn Stallings. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Smithfield. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Ann's warmth, wit, and deep compassion left a lasting imprint on everyone she met. She will be missed more than words can say, but her legacy of love and service lives on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ann's memory to the SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
