Retired Command Sergeant Major Alpheus Andrew Haswell, Jr., passed away in the comfort of his home, leaving behind a legacy of honor, service, and unwavering dedication to his country, his community, and those he loved.
Andrew proudly served over 30 years in the North Carolina Army National Guard, enlisting on December 29, 1981, as an 11B Infantryman. Throughout his distinguished military career, he held numerous leadership positions, ultimately serving as the Command Sergeant Major for the 105th Military Police Battalion. He deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, first in 2007 with the 1132nd Military Police Company as First Sergeant and again in 2010 with the 105th Military Police Battalion as Command Sergeant Major.
His military education included the United States Army Sergeants Major Course, First Sergeants Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Advanced Infantry School, Military Police School, and Casualty Assistance Officer Course. His exemplary service earned him numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Iraq Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and many other awards recognizing his distinguished career and sacrifice.
In addition to his military service, Andrew devoted 30 years to law enforcement, proudly serving with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He retired with the rank of Line Sergeant, earning the respect of his fellow Troopers through his integrity, leadership, and commitment to protecting the citizens of North Carolina.
Andrew was also a father who deeply loved his family. He took great pride in watching his daughters grow and cherished every moment spent with them. His strength, wisdom, humor, and steadfast presence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpheus Andrew Haswell and Elaine Driver; and his sisters, Brenda Haswell and Sandra Tedder.
He is survived by his former spouse, Kimberly Haswell; his daughters, Crystal Adams (Roger), McKenzi May (Brayden), and Maison Binns (Colin).
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, followed by a graveside service with full military honors in Bethany Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Kenly.
Andrew leaves behind a remarkable legacy of faithful military service, dedicated law enforcement, courageous leadership, and love for his family. He lived a life defined by duty, honor, and selfless service. He will be greatly missed, forever remembered, and never forgotten.
