Clayton – Amelia Gay Southerland, age 89, passed away Wednesday June 12, 2024. She was born in Johnston County on January 27, 1935 to the late Charles Leon Thompson and Gulie Ann Toler Thompson. In addition to her father and mother, she is also preceded in death by two husbands, Archie Brock and David Southerland; a son, Martin Patrick Brock; a brother, Charles Thompson; a sister, Ella Price.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday June 18, 2024 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Pleasant Plain OFWB in Selma. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Tuesday at 11 AM. Burial will take place in Selma Memorial Gardens after the church service.

She is survived by her sons, Archie Brock III and wife Dorothea of Clayton, Michael Brock and wife Lucy of Raleigh, Kent Southerland and wife Gail of Clayton; daughter, Lou Ann Peele and husband Chuck of Clayton; grandchildren, Martin Brock and wife Karla of Raleigh, David Brock and wife Trisha of Youngsville, Lee Brock and wife Carolyn of Clayton, Archie IIII Brock and wife Amy of Zebulon, Eric Brock and wife Breann of Garner, Joey Eatmon and wife Shelly of Jacksonville, Amber Polk and husband Ryan of Clayton, Tyler Southerland and wife Mandy of Clayton, David Eatmon and wife Laurie of Beaufort, SC, Jason Brock and wife Serena of Garner; 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Amelia was saved at 12 years old and has been a devout servant for the Lord since then, serving in many capacities within the church. She was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years.
