Cindy Whitley

July 24, 1950 - April 15, 2012

Smithfield – Cynthia “Cindy” Templeton Whitley, age 61, died Sunday evening in the SECU Hospice House. She was born July 24, 1950 in Raleigh to Alice Sykes Jackson of Raleigh and the late Ben Templeton. Cindy was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she was very active with the Methodist Women. She was a founding member of the “Cute” Bridge Club and a member of “The Book Club” in Smithfield. Cindy was a math teacher at North Johnston High School where she was also active with the SADD Chapter at the school.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield with the Rev. David Beck, the Rev. Meagan Matthews and the Rev. Dave Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband Whit Whitley; daughter, Courtney Pernell of Raleigh; son, Chandler Pernell and wife Christina of Smithfield; step-daughters, Lydia Whitley Moore and husband Andy of Smithfield and Katie Whitley of Paris, France; step-son, Hank Whitley and wife Laura of Leland; brother, Benjy Templeton of North Myrtle Beach, SC and her best friend, Judy Parnell. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Berkeley Rasmussen, Hampton Moore, Griffin Moore, Whitley Kate Moore, Judy Grace Whitley and Jenny Belle Whitley.
The family will host a Celebration from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley Hall of Centenary United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be made to the Methodist Women of Centenary UMC, 140 East Market Street, Smithfield, NC 27577 or the SECU Hospice House, 509 N. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield, NC 27577.
