Billy B. Oliver
February 14, 1925 - July 29, 2010Hampstead- Billy B. Oliver died July 29, 2010. He was 85 years old. Mr. Oliver was born in Selma, NC and graduated from Selma High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and graduated with honors from N. C. State University. While in college he was President of Campus Government, received the “Outstanding Engineering Senior” award, was a member of Golden Chain, Blue Key, Phi Kappa Phi, Thu Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, Thete Thu and IEEE.
Mr. Oliver worked for A T & T for forty years. When he retired he was Vice-President of Engineering. In 1989, he was the co-recipient of the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal. Mr. Oliver was an active member of the Hampstead Lion’s Club.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC with entombment following in the Oliver Cemetery near Pine Level. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10 to 11 AM.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife Irma of Hampstead; his daughter Jenny Oliver Briney and husband Roger of Charlottesville, VA; his son David Oliver and his wife Laurie of Bearsville, NY and his grandchildren Matthew, Sarah and John Briney and Marissa and Sierra Oliver.
